Nie wiem czy to będzie trafione, ale wydaje mi się, że soul jest chyba bardziej ukorzeniony w estetyce gospel i innych gatunków religijnych, tj. ekspresyjny wokal z dużą ilością ornamentacji, poza tym instrumenty typu tamburyny i blachy, z którymi w bluesie różnie. W późniejszym okresie soul zaczął funkować.
Myślę też, że tematyka bluesa jest nieco szersza. Soul chyba na ogół prawi(ł) o spełnionej albo niespełnionej miłości, potem jeszcze o równouprawnieniu rasowym. W bluesie natomiast pojawiały się jeszcze inne motywy typu: praca, więzienie, magia, hazard, problemy życiowe tj. brak pieniędzy, dachu nad głową, powodzie, susze itd. Dzisiaj pewnie trochę się tematyka zmienia, ale w dalszym ciągu, wydaje mi się, jest szersza od tematyki soulu.
