Jeżeli mogę wtrącić swoją, być może ignorancką, uwagę, to w muzyce jazzowej przez pojęcie head arrangement rozumie się aranżację kształtowaną w trakcie występu, a nie zapisaną w nutach. W przypadku Basie'go dotyczyło to szczególnie sekcji dęciaków. Muzycy nie grali z nut tylko było to wypadkową tego co grali na próbach i nastroju chwili. Brzmi to prosto, ale big band to skomplikowany aparat wykonawczy i żeby to wszystko razem brzmiało bez aranży zapisanych w nutach to naprawdę duża sztuka.
Nawiasem mówiąc widziałem Big Band Basie'go na żywo, niestety już bez Basiego i było to coś wspaniałego. Do dzisiaj pamiętam aplauz dla Freddie Green'a - wzorca swingowego grania w sekcji. Rok później zmarł.
