New Blues Bed & Breakfast To Open
The Village of Glendora, Mississippi, located 25 miles north of Greenwood and 25 miles south of Clarksdale, recently announced the grand opening of the new Sonny Boy Williamson, II Bed & Breakfast Cyber Cafe' honoring Glendora's native son & "King of the Blues Harmonica". This project is sponsored by the citizens of the Village of Glendora, and the Glendora Economic & Community Development Corporation with support from Mississippi Valley State University's (MVSU) Delta Research & Cultural Institute and Jackson State University's Fannie Lou Hamer Institute. In honor of Bobby Rush's support for this community revitalization initiative, February 4, 2008 was declared "Bobby Rush Day" in Glendora. The Sonny Boy Williamson Bed & Breakfast will serve as the community's new visitor's welcome center. The B&B features six single rooms - three with full-size beds, two with queens, and one with a king. Four of the rooms can be converted into two-room suites if desired. Rooms on the ground floor will feature memorabilia related to legendary blues artists such as Sonny Boy Williamson, II, B.B. King, Robert Johnson, and Bobby Rush. The second floor features the Bennie G. Thompson Congressional Suite. All room rates include breakfast, wireless internet access, access to the Blues & Abstract Truth Listening Lab, designed by MVSU's Delta Research & Cultural Institute.
