Muzyk z północnej Karoliny, który już chyba kilkukrotnie koncertował w Polsce, osiedlony na stałe za naszą zachodnią miedzą. Dla mnie to było jednak pierwsze spotkanie z tym artystą i jego twórczością.
Repertuar bardzo zróżnicowany, jest dużo soulu, pieśni amerykańskiego południa, bluesa, r’n’b, elementów reggae. Jednak jest to bardzo spójne przede wszystkim dzięki soulowemu wokalowi Wilsona, w którym słychać jak duży wpływ gospel . Oprócz roli wokalisty Big Daddy gra na prostym zestawie perkusjonali i przeszkadzajek tworząc „czarną” bazę rytmiczną.
Również znakomitymi muzykantami są włosi towarzyszący liderowi. Basista oszczędny, ale groovie jak czarny. No i świetny stylowy gitarnik, któremu korzenny blues, slide, teksańskie shuffle niestraszne. Jednak najbardziej podobał mi się jego oszczędna, ale z wielkim smakiem gra w partiach rytmicznych na Les Paul’u przy delikatnym efekcie tremolo. Słuchać, że najbliżej mu do muzyki soulowej i r’n’b właśnie z naleciałościami soulu.
Zresztą inspirację tym gatunkiem potwierdzili na finał koncertu, gdzie przez prawie 30 minut to były złote przeboje soulu począwszy od Otisa Redding’a przez Sam Cook’a, Ben E. Kinga, Percy Sledge, Solomon Burke, gdzie wokalnie udzielała się już cała trójka muzyków.
Koncert w Warszawie to dwa sety każdy lekko ponad godzinkę, czyli około 2,5 godz. grania. Grają jeszcze w kilku miejscach w Polsce. Warto!
Jedyny minus, to na koncercie mają drogawo płyty CD – 70zł.
